Com uma curta mensagem em seu MySpace, o quarteto Whitest Boy Alive fez um balanço de seus dois primeiros anos de vida e anunciou o lançamento de seu segundo disco, batizado de Rules. No novo álbum é mais perceptível a forma como o vocalista e guitarrista sueco Erlend Øye, que também é metade do Kings of Convenience, transformou a banda em seu principal veículo – deixando a dupla e sua carreira solo em segundo plano. Inicialmente eletrônico, o novo disco é uma jóia que não fica preso a um único gênero. A maioria das faixas seguem uma fórmula que mistura jazz funk dos anos 70, eletrônica minimal, bossa nova, twee e um clima meio lounge – sem nunca pender mais para um lado ou outro. O resultado é um disco pop com quase 100% de aproveitamento das canções – com refrão, groove discreto, melodia, bons arranjos e um vocal sempre agradável e ensolarado, embora seja um sol quase sueco. Muito bom.
