Rolou um boato que o Devo talvez não venha ao festival Planeta Terra, que acontece em novembro no Brasil, que deve ter sido motivado pelo aviso que o grupo colocou na página de shows de seu site oficial, onde anunciavam:

Vamo torcer pra ser só boato e pros caras não terem confundido novembro com outubro. E, se por um lado rola essa possível má notícia (não bastasse o cancelamento do Digitalism), por outro parece que o 2ManyDJs baixa aqui de novo esse ano. O problema é que parece que, em São Paulo, eles tocam na Pachá :/

Falando em Blur, parece que o grupo volta ainda esse ano para gravar com a formação original (um almoço essa semana decide os destinos dos quatro). Entusiasmado com a notícia, o baixista anunciou que pode ser o melhor disco do grupo. Não duvide: depois de anos rondando o pop de formas improváveis (seja com o Gorillaz ou com o projeto The Good, The Bad and the Queen), bem fácil Damon Albarn doma as paradas e o zeitgeist na unha. Na paralela, o Liam anunciou oficialmente o fim da treta Blur x Oasis. Resta saber se isso possibilita o melhor Além da Imaginação dos anos 90: Damon e Noel trabalhando juntos. Imagina – só isso seria páreo para o posto “Beatles da década de 90”. Que é do Radiohead, se alguém pergunta.

O assunto Radiohead 2007 mal começou. Olha a Time:

Radiohead doesn’t need those stinkin’ badges. They’re THINKING FOR THEMSELVES!

What did that button say back in the sixties? “Question Authority”? That’s what Radiohead is doing here. They’re not holding back, saying their hands are tied, but are forging into the future.

You can’t make a TV show by yourself. Certainly not a movie. Not that anyone can see. But you can make a record all by your lonesome, it doesn’t cost that much. And you can say exactly what you want, you don’t need to clean it up for Wal-Mart. And, you can distribute it yourself online. That’s what Radiohead is doing.

Will they make a deal with a major for physical distribution? Will they do it themselves? Or will they leave ALL that money on the table? Shit, that would blow MY mind.

Resumindo a ópera, o Radiohead fez o que muita gente (eu inclusive) esperava que o Los Hermanos fizesse quando seu contrato com a Abril terminou e eles preferiram lançar o Ventura pela SonyBMG a lançar por conta própria. Só que agora não é uma banda brasileira promissora com um culto de fãs cada vez mais obediente. É a banda mais importante do mundo em atividade erguendo a mesa onde antes negociava seu trabalho com engravatados. Eles nem perceberam a inclinação da superfície. Em pouco tempo, a mesa vai virar.

Resta só agora ver se o Michael Moore faz um filme sobre direito autoral. E, em vez de deixar vazar online como fez com seu Sicko, usar a rede como veículo de distribuição.

O blog Dead Flowers postou as demos de um dos melhores disco dos anos 90, Parklife, do Blur. O grosso do disco tá ali (mesmo conceitualmente), ainda que algumas faixas sumiram durante a gravação para abrir espaço para outras, que ainda não tão nestas demos (como “London Loves”, “Magic America” e a faixa que batiza esse post). Mas dá pra perceber umas influências menos óbvias do que as que apareceram no formato final. O riff de “Bank Holiday”, mais devagar, prova-se primo do de “Don’t Fear the Reaper” acelerado. “Clover Over Dover” parece uma faixa dos primeiros discos do Police, “Girls & Boys” era mais Human League ainda, enquanto a faixa mais Human League do disco final (“Trouble In The Message Centre“, ainda batizada de “Trouble”) parece uma faixa do Buzzcocks. “Jubilee” é quase idêntica à versão final (barulhinhos de chaveiro Manu Chao inclusive), “Far Out” não tem nada de sonífera e parece localizada nos anos 70, naquela época em que o rock inglês já tinha digerido o glam mas o punk não havia acontecido e o vocal de “Parklife” no disco gravado pelo ator Phil Daniels, de Quadrophenia, é feito por um Damon Albarn encarnando (bem, pra variar) um personagem. A coleção de músicas ainda conta com as inéditas “Never Clever”, “Peter Panic”, “Seven Days” e a ótima “One a Minute”, que é como os Libertines soariam se fossem bons.
